KIT LIST

Hey lovely adventurer! 🥾

Here’s a kit list to get you ready for a fun-filled 6-hour hike! If you're joining me for one of my bigger adventures, don’t forget to check out the specific kit list for that challenge.

I always want to make sure you’re safe, comfortable, and enjoying every moment of your hike with me, whether you're joining for just a day or embarking on a week-long journey abroad. The right kit is key to all of that!

I’ve made sure to select the compulsory items for your safety, and they're absolutely non-negotiable. I will do a quick check at the start to ensure you’re all set. If something’s missing or not quite right, I might need to make the call to ensure everyone stays safe and sound.

Compulsory Items:

(These are really important, so please make sure you have them!)

  • Waterproof Jacket & Trousers â€“ You’ll need these in case the weather takes a turn. Aim for full waterproof gear, not just water-resistant as you'll definitely notice the difference in a downpour! If you're packing waterproof over-trousers, make sure your walking trousers are lightweight and flexible. Definitely skip the jeans, they get heavy when wet and aren’t comfy on a warm day.

  • Walking Boots & Socks â€“ Make sure your boots are well-tested, properly fitting, and broken in. A good pair of walking socks can make all the difference too, especially ones that wick away moisture. Be sure to try them out beforehand so you’re comfy on the day.

  • Rucksack/Backpack â€“ A small-to-medium sized bag (around 30L) should do the trick for carrying your extra layers, food, and water. The size of your bag depends on how much you want to carry, but a well-fitted, comfy rucksack is a must. For keeping things dry, you can use waterproof covers or dry bags to protect your essentials.

  • Warm Clothes (Layers, please!) â€“ Dress smart with a t-shirt or technical baselayer underneath. I’d recommend avoiding cotton as it soaks up water and takes forever to dry! If you’re prone to getting cold, wool or synthetic layers are great.

  • Fleece/Jumper â€“ Pop a couple of warm layers in your bag just in case, you never know when you’ll need them, especially if you're out on higher ground.

  • Hat & Gloves (waterproof, if possible!) â€“ Yes, even in summer, you can still get chilly! A hat, a buff for your neck, and waterproof gloves will keep you toasty and protected from the elements. Do bring spares if you have more than one pair, especially if not waterproof.

  • Food & Fluids â€“ Be sure to bring along ALL the snacks that’ll keep your energy up, as well as enough water. On a regular day hike, 1.5L of water should be plenty, but if you're doing something longer, aim for 2-3L. Hydration is key!

  • Head Torch (for sunrise & sunset hikes only) â€“ Don’t forget to bring a head torch, and be sure it works! You’ll need to check it before the hike, and if it’s not working, we won’t be able to let you join the walk for safety reasons. Please leave your phone torch at home for this one!

  • Mobile Phone â€“ Make sure it’s charged and have a spare power bank with you, you’ll be taking all the photos!

  • Personal Medication â€“ If you rely on medication like inhalers, EpiPens, or anything else, don’t forget to bring it along, stored in a waterproof and easy-to-reach container. Please let me know if you have any specific medical needs ahead of time, I’ve got your back!

Recommended Extras:

(These are optional but can really make a difference!)

  • Walking Poles â€“ Many people find them handy for easing uphill efforts and reducing strain on your joints going downhill.

  • Sun Cream â€“ The weather can change quickly, and even if it’s cloudy, you can still get sunburned. Make sure to pack some for protection.

  • Midge Spray â€“ If you're in a midge-y area, this could be your lifesaver! A little spray can make a big difference to your experience.

  • Gaiters â€“ These protect the gap between your boots and trousers, keeping your feet dry and preventing dirt from sneaking in. I’m a big fan of gaiters even in summer!

  • Sit Mat â€“ This lightweight, foldable mat will keep you comfy and dry if you need to take a rest on wet ground. It’s a simple yet super handy item for any break!

I hope this helps you feel totally ready for your adventure! If you’ve got any questions or need advice, just drop us a message – we’re always here to help!

Can’t wait to see you out there on the trail!

Warmly,
Ilaria
